Haidian district (Chinese: 海淀区, pinyin: hǎidiàn qū) is a suburban district of Beijing. It covers an area of 431 square kilometres and has a population of over 2,200,000. Haidian district is home to many universities such as Beijing University and Tsinghua University as well as the Old Summer Palace and the Summer Palace.
