Specifications as to the accuracy that a specified map or set of maps must have. E.g., the U.S. Map Accuracy Standards are specifications for the accuracy of maps prepared for agencies of the U.S. government, and also used by other organizations and cartographers.

A mirror reflecting light or other radiation mostly from the surface farther from the source. In non-technical writing, mirror means a rear-surface mirror unless otherwise unless otherwise stated. A highly reflecting, metallic coating is placed (usually by chemical deposition) on one surface of a transparent material like glass or quartz. A tough coating, usually black, is then painted over the metal to protect it from corrosion and wear. For use in some optical systems, rear surface mirrors are made by evaporating a metallic coating onto the rear surface.

(1) A combination of three or more Loran A stations forming two or more pairs of stations for navigation. (2) A combination of a master station and two or more slave stations, all of the Loran C type, forming two or more pairs of stations for navigation.
Industry:Earth science
Proper motion determined by comparing a star's location at different times with the locations of other stars at those times.
Industry:Earth science
A topographic or planimetric map that has been revised by photogrammetric methods.
Industry:Earth science
A topographic map produced photogrammetrically from aerial photographs and geodetic control.
Industry:Earth science
That part of an inertial-surveying system which measures acceleration by using accelerometers. The data from the inertial measuring unit go to a computer in which the coordinates of the surveying system in a suitable coordinate system are computed. The computer also sends commands, based on these data, to the inertial measuring unit and, possibly, to the navigator.
Industry:Earth science
The matrix composed of the coefficients of the independent variables in a set of linear, simultaneous equations having exactly as many equations as independent variables. The normal matrix occurring when adjusting a set of differences of elevation is an irreducible Stieltjes matrix.
Industry:Earth science
The angle between an oblique meridian used as reference and any given oblique meridian.
