Xibalba

The name of the Mayan underworld, the name meaning place of fear. This place is well documented in Mayan legends.

It is presided over by ten gods, although the first and the seventh are generally seen to be the most powerful and influential with the others being thought of as generic demons. It is thought of as a city that living humans can travel to, although they would not want to - it has rivers of blood and countless painful trials.

The entrance to Xibalba exists on earth, and there are a couple of candidates for the 'real' entrance dotted around South America.
