Bunad
Bunad is a word for Norwegian 20th Century folk costume. The bunad movement started in the 19th Century during the romantic nationalism. The clothing are very elaborate with embroidery, scarves, shawls and hand-made silver and gold jewelry. There are bunads for both men and women, but it is more common among women. The design vary from place to place in the country, and usually people chose their bunad based on where they are from. It takes about a year to finish a bunad, and it has become a tradition for parents to give them to their children as a confirmation present.
